REVIEW: It was another excellent week for the Warrior track & field teams as they competed against University H. S. (League Dual Meet) and at the Trabuco Hills Invitational. All five teams remained undefeated in league competition as they outscored the cross-town rival Trojans by the following scores: Varsity Boys: 93 – 34; Varsity girls: 80 – 47; F/S Boys106 -21; JV Boys: 92 – 35; JV Girls; 130-24. In the University Meet: Dragan Simic (1600, 800), Jeffrey Azuogu (LJ, TJ), Maia Craver (100, 200), Molly Babcock (1600, 3200) and Hannah Heising (100HH, 300 LH) registered double victories. Madeline Bradfor (800), Morgan Johnson (SP), Austin Rouk (400), Scott Patton (200), Brando Ferguson (3200), Ryan Waterson (Dis) and TJ Rogerson (HJ) earned first place finishes in their events. Our JV boys and girls and the frosh/soph boys dominated their events as well.
At the Trabuco Hills Invitational (one of the largest track & field invitational in So Calif), our athletes registered many PRs and competed well against some of the top athletes in CIF. It is very impressive how our athletes bring out their best efforts in these pressure and competitive meets. Here are some of our top performances:
Patrick Ingram (155’ season best in the Disc), Morgan Johnson (99’10” PR in Disc and 33’7” PR in the shot), Maia Craver (25.74 PR in the 200 and first place, 1:00.43 Pr in the 400 and 58.9 anchor leg in the F/S girls school record 4x400 relay), Girls F/S 4 x 400 (Car Vu – 62.5, Kyle Oefelein – 59.9, Hannah Heising - 61.9, Maia Craver – 58.9) relay team sets new school record, Hannah Heising (16.89 and 46.77 PR to win the 300 LH), Gabe Warner (PR 200 -23.43 and PR 400 -52.93), Scott Patton (PR 200 – 23.67 and Pr AFT 100 – 11.51), Maddie Franklin earned 4th place in Disc (89’ 04”) and shot put (30’08”), Jeffrey Azaogu (20’8” PR in LJ, and 41’6” TJ), Hannah O’Connor (5’2” ties PR and 5:24.82 1600 Pr), Kyle Oefelein season best in the 800 (2:22.85 and sub 60 in the 4x400 relay), Josh Thatcher (4:48.66 Pr in the 1600), Alexis Abad (5:29.58 Pr in the 1600), Anish Reddy sub 5:00 (4:59.28) 1600, and many other Prs in the 800 and 1600.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Maia Craver 25.74 PR in the 200 and first place, 1:00.43 Pr in the 400 and 58.9 anchor leg in the F/S girls school record 4x400 relay) and Hannah Heising (16.89, 46.77 PR to win the 300 LH and a great leg on 4x400) for the girls and Gabe Warner (PR 200 -23.43 and PR 400 -52.93) are the sprint and hurdles athletes of the week. Morgan Johnson (99’10” PR in Disc and 33’7” PR in the shot) and Jeffrey Azaogu (20’8” PR in LJ, and 41’6” TJ) are the field event athletes of the week. Kyle Oefelein (2:22.85 and sub 60 in the 4x400 relay) and Josh Thatcher (huge 4:48.66 PR in the 1600. He ran as 9th grader, as 10th grader) are the distance athletes of the week
WEEKLY SCHEDULE/ANNOUNCEMENTS
I. Corona Del Mar High School League Dual Meet # 3 at WHS:
a. This will be the most important dual meet of the season thus far. CDM boys’ team is the only other undefeated boys team in the league. This meet will basically decide the dual meet championship for the season. The CDM girls have one defeat (against Irvine ) and will be very hungry to get back in the hunt for the league title. They have a very strong team.
b. Woodbridge will officiate all 5 of the field events as well as the finishes in the running event. We will need all the parent volunteers we can possibly round up for this meet. The races will be very close and it will help to have back ups. Please help us out by letting Kelly Babcock which event you can help with.
c. Non-scoring 100s at . Non-scoring 200s during the 3200.
d. Hurdle crews will be set up by Coach Craver and block crews will be set up by Coach K. and meet scoring crews will be set up by Coach V.
e. Entries will be posted on Wednesday on the shed
II. Arcadia Invitational on Friday & Saturday (WHS è Culver è
